An Important Question

Take a minute to think about this question:

What is more important – a perfect smile or a perfect body?

In a recent survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), consumers reported they would pay to fix their teeth before they paid for weight loss help.

The survey also had some other interesting figures as well:

  • 80% of people said they would spend money to hide or correct aging flaws.

Of those 80%:

  • 62% said they would pay to fix the quality of their teeth
  • 48% said they would invest in weight loss help instead.

When asked what feature defies aging effects the most:

  • 34% of participants said eyes
  • A whopping 45% said teeth
  • Body shape (10%), hair (6%), and legs (5%)followed

Furthermore, 54% of Americans over 50 admitted a smile can overcome years of age, while only 38% of 18- to 29-year-olds thought the same.

Here’s how the AACD got their results:

“The AACD Smile Survey was conducted between August 17 and August 23, 2012 among 1,018 nationally representative Americans ages 18 and over, using an email invitation and an online survey. Margin of error = +/- 3.1 percent.” (AACD)
