Although side effects such as swelling and bruising around the injection sites can be expected, they usually dissipate within the first few days after the procedure. Most patients do not need a recovery period following BOTOX® treatment.

How Long Can I Expect BOTOX® to Continue Relieving My TMD Symptoms?

The results of BOTOX® injections for TMD typically last approximately three to four months. Once the effects start to fade, a re-treatment here at our practice can help keep the results going for much longer periods.

To maximize your comfort, the treatment sites can be numbed with a topical anesthetic before the injections. This procedure is often completed in about 30 minutes or less, and patients are typically able to return to normal daily routines immediately. While there will likely be some degree of temporary bruising, swelling, and redness in the treatment sites, BOTOX® Cosmetic usually does not require downtime.

How Long Will the Results of BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?

The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last from three to four months and can be maintained with occasional follow-up treatments.
