BOTOX® Injections and Dermal Fillers
Our practice offers advanced BOTOX® injections for the treatment of TMJ Disorder and facial muscle pain, as well as for effective facial rejuvenation. This popular injectable has proven to successfully address an array of concerns, both functional and cosmetic. Two of our experienced dentists, Dean Lodding, DDS and Gabrielle Chevance, DMD, are members of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and are extensively trained and skilled with BOTOX® injections and injectable dermal filler procedures. With these treatments available right here at our office, our doctors can help patients fight the effects of TMJ Disorder and provide individuals with non-surgical cosmetic enhancement options that can reduce signs of age for a more youthful, vibrant appearance.
BOTOX® for TMJ Disorder
The advanced composition of BOTOX® has proven to help relieve symptoms caused by conditions affecting the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which is the joint that connects the upper and lower jaw. TMJ Disorder, also referred to as TMD, is a very common and debilitating concern suffered by many individuals. BOTOX® injections can temporarily stop overactive muscles along the joint from contracting, which can ultimately reduce jaw pain and other effects commonly experienced by patients who have TMD.
What Can I Expect During the BOTOX® for TMD Treatment Process?
Our dentist will gently and precisely inject the BOTOX® solution into the muscles from which the pain is originating. The injections are made with a very fine needle, and a topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment areas to minimize the potential for discomfort. In many cases, the entire treatment can be completed in less than 30 minutes.
What Are the Side Effects of BOTOX® Treatment for TMJ Disorder?
Although side effects such as swelling and bruising around the injection sites can be expected, they usually dissipate within the first few days after the procedure. Most patients do not need a recovery period following BOTOX® treatment.
How Long Can I Expect BOTOX® to Continue Relieving My TMD Symptoms?
The results of BOTOX® injections for TMD typically last approximately three to four months. Once the effects start to fade, a re-treatment here at our practice can help keep the results going for much longer periods.
BOTOX® injections have helped many patients alleviate some of the more common symptoms of TMJ Disorder. Our experienced dentist can meet with you for an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and help you decide whether this treatment is right for your needs.
BOTOX® Cosmetic for Facial Rejuvenation
With their extensive understanding of oral and maxillofacial structures and mechanics, dentists who have been trained in cosmetic injectable techniques are often uniquely suited to provide treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic. One of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures in the nation, BOTOX® Cosmetic can help both women and men diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in a variety of facial areas to produce a more youthful appearance. The BOTOX® Cosmetic solution is designed to temporarily prevent muscle contracture (which is the primary cause of wrinkles) in the specific facial areas targeted for treatment. By relaxing these muscles, signs of age can be reduced and the skin can appear smoother and more refreshed.
What Can BOTOX® Cosmetic Do for Me?
BOTOX® Cosmetic offers a range of benefits, including:
- Diminished signs of crow’s feet and creases along the forehead
- Diminished signs of frown lines and furrows between the brows
- Reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and lines in other facial areas
What Does the BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure Involve?
Dr. Lodding or Dr. Chevance will inject the BOTOX® Cosmetic solution into the areas targeted for rejuvenation with a fine needle. To maximize your comfort, the treatment sites can be numbed with a topical anesthetic before the injections. This procedure is often completed in about 30 minutes or less, and patients are typically able to return to normal daily routines immediately. While there will likely be some degree of temporary bruising, swelling, and redness in the treatment sites, BOTOX® Cosmetic usually does not require downtime.
How Long Will the Results of BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?
The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last from three to four months and can be maintained with occasional follow-up treatments.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Dermal Fillers
In addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dr. Chevance and Dr. Lodding also perform dermal filler treatments. The injectable dermal filler options available at our practice are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is natural to the body, and should therefore not require an allergy test before treatment. Dermal fillers can often benefit patients who would like to:
- Enhance volume in facial features such as the lips and cheeks
- Reduce signs of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth
- Reduce “smile lines” and “parentheses lines” between the nose and mouth
- Smooth out lines and wrinkles in a variety of facial areas
Our practice offers numerous products in the JUVÉDERM® line, which are some of the most popular and effective dermal fillers available. Many of these options can yield results that last six months or more. In fact, some are known for their ability to continue providing rejuvenating effects as much as one year and even 18 months after the initial treatment. Results can be maintained for longer periods with “touch-up” treatment once the effects begin to fade.
What Are My JUVÉDERM® Options?
Our JUVÉDERM® options include:
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC
This JUVÉDERM® product can be very helpful for lip enhancement by adding volume to the lips for fuller results and improved contours.
JUVÉDERM® XC can often benefit patients who would like significantly diminish the appearance of nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and mouth).
With JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, patients can add volume to the cheeks and mid-facial areas, enhancing contours for a more youthful appearance.
One of the newer products in the JUVÉDERM® line, JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE is another option that can significantly reduce signs of nasolabial folds (“parentheses lines”) and create a much smoother aesthetic.
